COMMUNITY COORDINATOR: Jennifer Martinez

718-292-2683 ext. 2262

“I would like to take the time to introduce myself as your students in temporary housing (STH) Community Coordinator. I am excited to embark on this school year as the Students in Temporary Housing (STH) Community Coordinator and look forward to collaborating with you.

New York City Schools Chancellor announced additional support for students in temporary housing (STH). Homelessness is a major crisis in the city 1 in 10 New York City students are affected. Students in temporary housing are defined as students experiencing housing instability at any point, for any length of time, during the school year, this includes the following experiences of housing instability: students who are residing in shelters, students who are in Foster Care and students who are “doubled up” (sharing housing with others such as family or friends, temporarily).

Under the McKinney-Vento Act, and Chancellor's Regulation A-780, a student in temporary housing has the right to services to help both the student and the family during this difficult time. As a STH Community Coordinator, I will work closely with and support all students and their families in temporary housing in order to preserve as much stability as possible during challenging times. “
